Wellness and Personal Development Classes

At present the LOGIK Centre is not offering wellness and personal development classes due to the closure of the university. Antenatal Exercise Excellent for raising energy levels, managing stress, regaining sleep, increasing self-confidence and self-esteem and improving life balance.
Through increased body awareness, Pilates strengthens postural muscles.  This is incredibly valuable during pregnancy when changes in the body can lead to numerous aches and pains. Practising Pilates during pregnancy will help train muscles which support good posture helping to protect against such problems.  Pilates will also develop skills useful during labour and help prepare for the demands of motherhood. The class is delivered by Claire Bentley Hicks (Infinite Ambience).  Claire has over 10 years’ experience teaching natal classes, certified as a Modern Pilates pre/post-natal instructor.

HIIT This definitely does what is says on the tin!  Short bursts of high impact, intense cardio work in the first part of the session followed by strength training for the upper body, the legs and the midriff. There are plenty of low impact alternatives to all the exercises for those that need it.

Bums, Legs and Tums: A conditioning class focusing on those problematic areas of legs, glutes and abdominals.

Iyengar Yoga: Focuses upon the correct body alignments to harmonise with our development, eliminating aches and pains and improving posture. The asana positions are held for considerable lengths of time to let the effects of the poses deepen within the individual.

Beginners Pilates This is an introduction to Pilates.  Come and see how you can learn to move better and address postural issues.  Work on your strength, joint mobility and your flexibility, with a focus on form, alignment and stability.

Improvers Pilates This Pilates is aimed at people who have done Pilates before and know the basics.  Ideally you should have done at least 20 sessions before enrolling upon this class.

Beginners Yoga with Claire A class designed for individuals with no experience of Yoga.  Over the 10 week course students will be introduced to yogic breathing techniques, basic asana, mindfulness and relaxation.

Intermediate Yoga with Claire A class suitable for those with previous Yoga experience.  The session will be different from week to week, so as, students enjoy a diverse asana practice.

Body Jam: A mixture of dance and aerobics moves blended with the latest sounds of hip hop,funk, and Latin American music. It can be considered as a cardio workout. Apart from making you sweat, fun is another important element in the 45 minute class.

Piyo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga. And, we crank up the speed to deliver a true fat-burning, low-impact workout that leaves your body looking long, lean, and incredibly defined

Insanity: The most heart pumping, muscle shredding, sweat dripping, high intensity cardio workout you will ever do!

Clubercise: Want to bring a night out to your workout? Clubbercise® is a fun dance workout to club anthems from 90’s classics, using glowsticks to add to the atmosphere. Clubbercise fitness classes are great for beginners and fitness fans alike. One class burns around 600 calories.

Boxercise:Providing an entire body workout based on the skills and techniques used in the boxing ring. There is no body contact so do not be alarmed, instead you will train with a variety of boxing moves and techniques that provide a calorie burning workout suitable for all abilities.

Italian: Come and discover Italian language! You will learn how to communicate in everyday situations, whether you want to speak Italian for leisure,holidays or just for your personal choice.  We will work to develop your skills by speaking, writing, reading and listening Italian language. You will get in touch with a beautiful language and an amazing country

Creative Writing: What is it about a piece of writing that draws you in?
How do you construct a work that can take you to another place?When can words create drama, a sense of being ‘in the moment’, fully immersed?Why do some texts resonate long after you have finished reading?Where are stories sourced?Who is the reader?

Each workshop session will seek to engage with these questions and develop your ideas. Techniques, including how to ‘find’ and research a story, will inform your own unique style.How to capture atmosphere and drama and other ‘tricks of the trade’ will be investigated.Discussion and involvement will underpin each topic with ideas supportive of your writing development.The sessions will include structured elements, discussions, small group work, reflection and development of your writing skills.

Topics will include:‘Interest’ ‘empathy’  ‘integrity’: Different methods of research and the value of journals.
‘Knowing where to start and where to follow’: Methods and structures of writing and editing.
‘Creating mood and a sense of place’: The effects of setting, genre and pace.
‘Dramatic effect through style and voice’: Language, hooks and cliff-hangers.
‘Lingering resonance’: How poetry, prose and metaphor can be employed.
‘Who is the reader?’: Genres and plot structures.
‘Everyone has a story… the trick is finding it!’: Reliable sources, unreliable memories.
‘Whose voice?’ – Validity and ‘permissions’.
